Spring Cleaning - Beauty Edition!

Welcome to our beauty edition of SK Spring Cleaning! If you read our other blog post earlier this week covering our tips & tricks for household spring cleaning, you’re probably off to a great start so now it’s time to tackle your beauty stash!

Check Expiration Dates

You might think it goes without saying but the first thing you should do is check the expiration dates of any products that have one listed. If you continue to use products past their expiration date, you’re putting yourself at risk of break-outs, bacterial infections, and products that aren’t working as efficiently as they should.

Wash Your Brushes. No Seriously, Wash Your Brushes
Did you know that makeup brushes are prime breeding grounds for bacteria? With daily use, you really should be cleaning your brushes once a week. So we’ll ask you – When was the last time you cleaned your brushes? …… Don’t answer that. We don’t want to know. Truth is, too many of us are not regularly cleaning our makeup brushes. Start the habit during your spring cleaning and start a schedule to make sure that you keep up the great work throughout the year. Can we suggest a weekly sheet mask on Sunday night? While you soak up all the delightful benefits from your mask, give those brushes a good cleaning! We love this easy to use tool from Amazon that makes brush cleaning a breeze. You can even use it to dry your brushes afterwards!

Don’t Skimp On The SPF

We know that all our royals out there are using a daily SPF like our non-pore clogging Face Reality SPF 28 but spring is a great time to either mix & up and try a new SPF (let us recommend Epicuren’s SPF 27) or to stock up and make sure you have a backup bottle of your favorite brand on deck. We know you don’t want to skip a single day of SPF this spring & summer season!

Moisturize Me!

As the seasons shift and the weather gets warmer, you’ll likely find that you replace some of your winter ride-or-die staples with lighter and less coverage products. Some dermal balms may be replaced for a gel-based moisturizer and heavy soothing masks may now come in second place to hydrating masks ready to quench thirsty summer skin. Some of our favorite warmer weather moisturizers include Epicuren’s Facial Emulsion or Face Reality’s Hydrabalance (which also acts as a great makeup primer!).

Set Yourself Up For Success

Like we mentioned in our household spring cleaning blog, now is the perfect time to get strategic and declutter your belongings - this includes beauty products! All those hotel soaps & shampoos that you were going to through in your gym bag? If you haven’t actually used them yet, toss them. All the free samples you’ve gotten as gifts with purchase that aren’t your preferred share? Same thing, find them a new home (we love swapping unused beauty products with friends!) or get rid of them. You’ll thank yourself later when you’re looking for your favorite lip shade and don’t have to go through multipole colors you’ve never (and never will) wear. Once you complete your purging process, invest in some practical storage & organization systems like these that will optimize your space and help you find products quickly and easily.

There you have it! With these five quick tips to expand spring cleaning to your beauty products, you’ll be fresh faced and ready to welcome warmer weather! If you have any other tips or tricks that you use to make your beauty products work best for you, we’d love to hear them! Leave us a comment below and we could feature your feedback on our social channels!

Until next time, live royally friends!
